Agribank advancing digital banking to expand access to financial services nationwide

13/02/2026

In line with the strategic direction on science, technology and innovation development under Politburo Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW, the Vietnam Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Agribank) is steadily building a digital banking model aimed at bringing modern financial services closer to people across all regions, thereby promoting financial inclusion and supporting sustainable socio-economic development.

To implement this direction, Agribank has issued Plan No. 77-KH/ĐU and Action Program No. 40486/NHNo-NHS, translating digital transformation orientations into specific tasks and implementation roadmaps across the entire system. In this strategy, technology is identified as the backbone, organization as the framework, people as the driving force, and security as the shield, all aimed at delivering digital banking services to every citizen and ensuring that no one is left behind in the digital transformation process.

Since late 2024, Agribank has proactively laid the groundwork for digital transformation by reviewing and refining internal policies and mechanisms while upgrading its technology infrastructure to meet development requirements in the new phase. In the first quarter of 2025, the Bank began designing core solutions and piloting key products and services. From mid-2025 onward, Agribank has continued expanding the rollout of these solutions, strengthening data connectivity and integration, and developing smart transaction point models to enhance customer experience.

Alongside strengthening its technology foundation, Agribank has accelerated the transformation of its operating model and distribution channels toward greater digitalization. Electronic banking products and services continue to be enhanced, integrating modern features such as online banking, mobile payments, contactless payments, QR code payments and other digital payment solutions. The Bank’s ATM and POS network, together with international card payment services, has also been upgraded to ensure fast, secure and convenient transactions for customers.

With its nationwide network, Agribank has implemented a range of innovative models to bring banking services closer to people, particularly in rural, remote and underserved areas. Mobile transaction points using specialized vehicles have effectively become “banks on wheels”, delivering financial services directly to difficult-to-access communities and helping people access formal credit sources, thereby contributing to preventing and reducing illegal lending activities.

In addition, Agribank continues to develop its data ecosystem while strengthening connectivity with ministries, sectors and local authorities to effectively leverage data resources for banking operations. Data standardization and integration not only enhance governance capacity and system security but also create conditions for developing automated digital products and services with a customer-centric approach.

As Vietnam enters the digital era, Agribank continues to affirm its role as a leading state-owned commercial bank in supporting agriculture, rural development and farmers, while also taking a proactive role in advancing digital transformation in the banking sector. With an increasingly modern technological foundation and an extensive nationwide network, Agribank is steadily realizing its goal of bringing digital banking services to every citizen, contributing to the development of a modern, inclusive and sustainable financial system.
