Agribank affirms its role as a key pillar of the national banking system through key national projects
23/03/2026
In its 38 years of establishment and development (1988–2026), the Vietnam Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Agribank) has affirmed its position as a a key pillar of the national financial system by leading capital flow into key national projects in infrastructure, energy, and transportation.
Agribank not only plays an important role in the "Tam Nong" (rural development) sector but also acts as the “extended arm” of the Government and the State Bank of Vietnam in channeling funds into major national projects, driving sustainable economic growth. Agribank’s brand has become synonymous with landmark projects of the century, such as Sơn La Hydropower, Lai Châu Hydropower, the North-South Expressway, and the Ring Road 4 – Hanoi Capital Region.
The success of Agribank stems from its three core values: strong financial capacity, political and social responsibility, and professional risk management capabilities. As of the end of 2025, Agribank’s total assets are expected to exceed VND 2.6 trillion, with mobilized capital of more than VND 2.3 trillion and loans to the economy nearing VND 2 trillion. The bank has also deployed preferential credit programs amounting to nearly VND 700 trillion, focusing on priority areas such as infrastructure investment and macroeconomic development.
In the context of economic volatility, Agribank continues to maintain preferential lending rates for key projects and enhances its digital transformation in disbursement processes, helping optimize capital flow and reduce the risk of bad debts. The application of modern banking management systems has enabled the bank to channel funds into projects that bring real value to the country.
Unlike purely commercial banks, Agribank always aligns national economic development with its business activities. With its leading asset size in the system, Agribank has the “endurance” to accompany long-term national strategic projects and is trusted to provide capital for large-scale projects.
In the period of 2021–2026, Agribank continues to make breakthroughs by financing many large-scale transportation infrastructure projects, international airports, and deep-water ports. Notably, Agribank played a key role in raising capital for the Ring Road 4 – Hanoi Capital Region project, with a total mobilized capital of more than VND 29.944 trillion, most of which Agribank managed. Simultaneously, the bank is pushing forward green financing and prioritizing renewable energy and environmentally friendly projects, aiming for sustainable development.
The nearly four-decade journey of accompanying national strategic projects proves that “Where there is a national-level project, there is Agribank’s capital”, reflecting Agribank’s long-standing commitment to creating value, boosting economic development, and realizing the country’s long-term growth goals.
