27/06/2025

From June 24–26, 2025, the Vietnam Delegation, led by Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Canh, Deputy Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), attended the 10th Annual Meeting of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and held various bilateral activities in Beijing, China. The meeting welcomed participation from over 100 countries and territories. The Agribank working delegation, headed by Mr. Doan Ngoc Luu, Deputy General Director, took part in the official agenda alongside the SBV delegation.

Under the theme “Connecting for Development, Collaborating for Prosperity,” the 10th AIIB Annual Meeting emphasized the importance of sustainable infrastructure investment and stronger cooperation among member countries. This year’s meeting held special significance as AIIB celebrates its 10th anniversary and shapes its development strategy for a new phase. One of the key highlights was the closed-door Board of Governors meeting to elect the AIIB President for the 2026–2031 term. As a result, Ms. Zou Jiayi, former Vice Minister of Finance of China, was elected to the position. In her inaugural speech, she outlined AIIB’s strategic vision built on four pillars: Infrastructure for the Future, Infrastructure for Regions, Infrastructure for Nature, and Infrastructure for People. She also committed to expanding AIIB’s annual lending capacity to USD 15 billion by 2030, enhancing the Bank’s role in climate change response, and promoting sustainable development and gender equality.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Agribank and the Vietnam Delegation held multiple bilateral sessions with senior AIIB officials to discuss financial cooperation, investment in AIIB-issued bonds, and portfolio development, as well as to promote innovative financial products that support sustainable development. The delegation also proposed that AIIB strengthen its presence in Southeast Asia and support key priority areas such as green transition, digital transformation, and smart infrastructure development.

Within the conference framework, SBV Deputy Governor Nguyen Ngoc Canh participated as a keynote speaker in the thematic seminar titled “Building ASEAN Regional Connectivity through Innovative Partnerships.” As Vietnam’s Alternate Governor at AIIB, he shared Vietnam’s vision for ASEAN connectivity toward 2045, regional energy integration, and development cooperation. He emphasized the role of innovative financial mechanisms and reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment to contributing to sustainable infrastructure, digital economy, and green energy transition in the region.

Through its participation in the AIIB Annual Meeting, Agribank reaffirmed its desire to expand international cooperation and to accompany multilateral development institutions such as AIIB in mobilizing and efficiently allocating resources for sustainable development. Agribank is committed to continuing close collaboration with both domestic and international partners to develop comprehensive, innovative financial solutions aligned with Vietnam’s socio-economic development strategy.

The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) was established and commenced operations in January 2016, with its headquarters in Beijing, China. To date, AIIB has 109 members (countries and territories), a charter capital of USD 100 billion, and holds AAA credit ratings from reputable international agencies. AIIB is dedicated to fostering sustainable economic development, supporting infrastructure projects, enhancing regional connectivity, and addressing climate change.
