Agribank: empowering Vietnam’s private sector for sustainable growth
26/05/2025
In Vietnam’s rapidly transforming economy, the private sector plays an increasingly vital role, contributing more than 51% of GDP and creating over 40 million jobs. As the country continues to promote innovation, digitalization, and sustainable development, the Vietnam Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Agribank) is actively expanding its role as a key financial partner of private enterprises—particularly those operating in rural and agricultural sectors.
With a credit growth limit of 13% for 2025, equivalent to approximately VND 230 trillion, Agribank has strategically prioritized private sector lending as part of its mission to promote long-term national growth. A substantial portion of this capital is being directed to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and private entrepreneurs across diverse fields, including agriculture, manufacturing, services, and export-oriented industries.
To ensure effective and inclusive support, Agribank has launched nine specialized credit programs that offer preferential interest rates and flexible repayment conditions. These include credit packages tailored for:
- Agricultural production and processing
- Export-import activities
- Business expansion and technological innovation
- Green and clean production aligned with national sustainability goals
These programs not only help businesses overcome capital constraints but also encourage strategic investment and enhance competitiveness in both domestic and global markets.
Agribank’s extensive network of over 2,300 branches and transaction offices, covering all 63 provinces and cities, including remote and underdeveloped areas, is a significant advantage in reaching private enterprises that are often underserved by commercial banks. This deep market penetration allows Agribank to deliver capital and financial services to local cooperatives, family-run businesses, and new-generation entrepreneurs who are vital to rural industrialization.
Agribank also places great emphasis on simplifying procedures, improving digital banking platforms, and offering training and consultancy services to private clients. With initiatives such as online loan applications, mobile banking, and automated credit scoring systems, the bank is transforming traditional banking services into modern, accessible, and customer-centric solutions.
Over the years, Agribank has been recognized as a trusted financial institution supporting the "Tam nông" strategy—agriculture, farmers, and rural areas—while also actively promoting the growth of the private sector as a pillar of the national economy. From funding coffee exporters in the Central Highlands to supporting tea processors in the North, and enabling farm-to-market supply chains across the Mekong Delta, Agribank has proven itself to be more than just a lender: it is a committed partner in sustainable development.
In the context of Vietnam’s ambition to become a high-income country by 2045, a vibrant and resilient private sector is essential. Agribank’s support for private enterprises is not only financial—it is strategic, inclusive, and future-oriented. With ongoing reforms, targeted credit programs, and a people-first approach, Agribank continues to lay strong foundations for the success of millions of Vietnamese businesses.
