As sustainable development increasingly becomes an essential requirement for the financial and banking sector, the integration of ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) criteria into business strategies is no longer merely a trend, but a key benchmark of long-term development capacity. Guided by this orientation, Vietnam Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Agribank) has continued to affirm its pioneering role as a core state-owned commercial bank, aligning business growth with social responsibility and shared prosperity for the community.

On December 22, 2025, Agribank was honored as a leading bank in developing value chains associated with social welfare at the Vietnam ESG Awards 2025, recognizing its persistent efforts in realizing a people-centered development philosophy. This distinction not only acknowledges the concrete results achieved, but also reflects Agribank’s consistent development orientation in embedding ESG criteria into its banking operations.

As a key bank in implementing major guidelines and policies of the Party and the State on agriculture, farmers and rural development, Agribank has consistently identified social welfare as a central pillar of its sustainable development strategy. Through credit activities, the provision of banking services, and programs implemented in partnership with local authorities, Agribank has contributed to the formation of sustainable socio-economic value chains, in which people are not only beneficiaries but also active participants, creating value and sharing long-term benefits.

Within Agribank’s ESG strategy, the Social pillar is clearly demonstrated through the allocation of substantial and stable resources over many years to social welfare programs nationwide. Thousands of meaningful projects and initiatives in education, healthcare, housing, livelihood support, and assistance for the poor and vulnerable groups have been implemented, contributing to improved living conditions, enhanced human resource quality, and the promotion of inclusive development, particularly in rural, remote and disadvantaged areas.

A defining feature of Agribank’s approach is the close linkage between social welfare and value chain development. Rather than pursuing isolated support activities, Agribank focuses on building highly interconnected financial–production–consumption ecosystems, in which bank credit acts as a catalyst to help production households, cooperatives and small enterprises enhance production capacity, expand market access, increase value added, and stabilize livelihoods.
