Agribank remains steadfast in its mission – Key financing supporting national development

21/07/2026

The year 2026 opens a new stage of national development, marked by ambitious goals and aspirations. Against a backdrop of continued complexity in the global economy, as climate change, digital transformation and the green transition profoundly reshape countries’ development models, Vietnam remains committed to maintaining macroeconomic stability, renewing its growth model, improving productivity and competitiveness, and achieving rapid and sustainable development.

The major policies of the Party, the National Assembly and the Government on private-sector development, science and technology, innovation, national digital transformation, green growth and sustainable development are creating new drivers for the economy, while placing greater demands on the financial and banking system to mobilise and allocate resources from across society effectively.

Within this development landscape, Agribank continues to affirm its role as a key state-owned commercial bank in financing the economy, particularly agriculture, farmers and rural areas, which have always formed a foundation of Vietnam’s economy and served as an important “pillar of support” during difficult periods.

For nearly four decades, Agribank has remained steadfast in the mission entrusted to it by the Party and the State, supporting millions of farming households, cooperatives, businesses and individuals across the country. In doing so, Agribank has made important contributions to national target programmes on new-style rural development, sustainable poverty reduction, socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, social welfare and macroeconomic stability.

This steadfast commitment is reflected in Agribank’s safe and effective business performance. As of the end of the first half of 2026, Agribank had maintained its position as one of Vietnam’s largest commercial banks, with total assets exceeding VND 2.7 quadrillion and mobilised funds surpassing VND 2.5 quadrillion.

Deposits from individual customers continued to account for the largest share, reflecting customers’ enduring trust in the Agribank brand. Outstanding loans to the economy exceeded VND 2 quadrillion, focusing on production and business activities and priority economic sectors in line with the directions of the Government and the State Bank of Vietnam.

In particular, outstanding loans to agriculture, farmers and rural areas exceeded VND 1.32 quadrillion, accounting for nearly 65% of total outstanding loans and remaining the highest share among credit institutions financing the development of agriculture, farmers and rural areas.

Throughout its development, Agribank has consistently demonstrated its role as a pioneering bank in effectively implementing the major policies and directions of the Party, the Government and the State Bank of Vietnam.

From credit programmes supporting high-tech and clean agriculture, bank–business linkage programmes and support for small and medium-sized enterprises, to credit programmes for production and business activities, recovery following natural disasters and disease outbreaks, and preferential credit packages for priority sectors, Agribank has remained one of the leading credit institutions in terms of funding scale, implementation scope and effectiveness.

Beyond ensuring the timely provision of capital to the economy, Agribank has actively implemented measures to reduce interest rates, restructure repayment schedules and support customers in overcoming difficulties, thereby contributing to stabilising production, safeguarding jobs and promoting economic growth.

As Vietnam enters a new stage of development, where the requirements for economic growth extend beyond pace to encompass quality, inclusiveness and sustainability, Agribank continues to define its mission not only as channelling capital to support economic development, but also as creating new growth drivers through green finance, digital transformation, innovation and sustainable development.

This also provides the foundation for Agribank to continue affirming its pioneering role as it supports the country in building a green, modern and prosperous economy in the new era of development.
