Agribank strengthens efforts to prevent illegal lending and enhance AML/CTF compliance

17/11/2025

Amid growing risks related to illegal lending, money laundering, and terrorist financing in an increasingly complex global financial environment, Agribank remains firmly committed to safeguarding the stability of the financial system and protecting customer interests. As a core State-owned commercial bank with the largest service network in Vietnam, Agribank continues to implement comprehensive and proactive measures to prevent illegal lending practices while ensuring strict compliance with national AML and CTF regulations.

In full alignment with the Law on Anti-Money Laundering and relevant decrees and circulars issued by the Government and the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), Agribank requires all units across its network to strengthen internal controls, conduct rigorous risk assessments, and ensure that customer identification, transaction monitoring, and risk classification are performed in full accordance with regulatory standards. This approach ensures that all financial activities—whether for individuals or businesses—are transparent, traceable, and legally compliant.

In parallel, expanding access to formal financial services remains a central component of Agribank’s strategy to reduce reliance on illegal lending channels. With an extensive presence from urban centers to remote and rural areas, Agribank provides transparent, secure, and affordable financial services, enabling individuals and enterprises to access lawful sources of capital and avoid high-risk, informal lending practices.

Agribank also places strong emphasis on strengthening institutional capacity. The bank regularly conducts system-wide training programs to enhance the skills of its operational staff in identifying suspicious transactions, managing risks, and adhering to legal requirements. This ongoing capacity-building equips Agribank’s operational staff with the expertise required to detect, prevent, and report potential AML/CTF risks effectively and in a timely manner.

Close coordination with law-enforcement agencies, regulatory bodies, and credit institutions is another key pillar of Agribank’s efforts. Through enhanced information sharing, joint monitoring, and active collaboration in handling violations, Agribank contributes to improving the overall effectiveness of financial crime prevention and maintaining a safe, stable credit environment.

Guided by its mission to support national development and protect the financial well-being of the Vietnamese people, Agribank remains committed to implementing robust measures to prevent illegal lending, money laundering, and terrorist financing. Agribank will continue to strengthen its compliance framework, enhance communication and public awareness initiatives, and work closely with relevant authorities—contributing to a transparent, secure, and sustainable financial system.
