From policy to technology, Agribank progressively strengthens its “shield” against digital fraud

28/09/2026

Alongside the “digital shields” established by the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), each credit institution is building additional layers of protection to address the growing pressure from high-tech crime. Banks are investing heavily in technology infrastructure, artificial intelligence (AI), big data, machine learning and real-time transaction monitoring systems to enable the early detection of unusual activity. Rather than taking action only after risks have arisen, many banks have introduced warning mechanisms that alert customers before they proceed with a transaction.

In implementing the spirit of Directive No. 57-CT/TW and directions from the SBV, Vietnam Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Agribank) has decisively and comprehensively deployed technological solutions and operational processes. Agribank is among the institutions at the forefront of integrating data from the National Population Database under Project 06 and applying facial authentication to high-value fund transfers. This technological foundation helps render most accounts not held in the legitimate account holder’s name ineffective, thereby disrupting the flow of fraudulent funds.

In particular, Agribank has put AgriNotify into operation — an automated solution designed to detect accounts showing signs of fraud while customers are carrying out fund transfers. A key feature of AgriNotify is its real-time data cross-checking mechanism. As soon as a customer enters the beneficiary’s account number, the system automatically checks the information against databases maintained by relevant authorities and Agribank’s internal data to assess the level of risk. If unusual signs are detected, a warning is immediately displayed on the transaction interface, providing customers with additional information to consider before confirming the transfer. Warnings are classified into different levels, ranging from accounts included on warning lists issued by competent authorities and accounts showing suspicious signs to cases where beneficiary information has not yet been verified against the National Population Database.

The effectiveness of the solution is reflected in specific figures. As of 5 April 2026, AgriNotify had generated more than 200,000 transaction warnings, of which over 91,000 transactions were proactively suspended or cancelled by customers, with a total value exceeding VND 360 billion. In 2025 alone, Agribank’s entire network also detected and returned funds in more than 25,700 mistaken transfers, with a total value of over VND 91 billion, while preventing nearly 60 cases of online fraud and protecting more than VND 17 billion in customers’ funds.

In addition, Agribank employees at branches promptly detected and prevented nearly 60 cases of online fraud, safeguarding more than VND 17 billion for customers and further demonstrating Agribank’s responsibility in protecting customer assets and ensuring transaction security. These figures not only reflect the robustness of Agribank’s operations, but also clearly demonstrate its commitment to integrity, transparency and placing customers’ interests at the forefront.

Every Agribank employee and teller not only carries out banking operations safely, but also serves as a “shield” protecting customers’ assets through professional ethics and a strong sense of responsibility. Together with AgriNotify, they form a “dual protection system” that proactively prevents risks from the outset and ensures security throughout every transaction.
