Moody's reaffirmed Agribank's ratings
20/01/2025
On January 17, 2025, the international credit rating agency Moody's announced that it has maintained Agribank's credit rating at Ba2 for both local (LC) and foreign currency (FC) long-term (LT) bank deposit and issuer ratings. Additionally, Moody's maintained Agribank's Ba2 LT FC and LC Counterparty Risk Ratings (CRR) and Ba2(cr) LT Counterparty Risk Assessment (CR Assessment). Agribank’s rating outlooks have remained Stable.
Agribank's ratings and credit rating outlook remain unchanged compared to the last assessment (August 23, 2023) and are equivalent to Vietnam's national rating and outlook (Ba2 Stable).
Moody's assessment of Agribank's Ba2 credit rating and Stable outlook indicates confidence in its credit stability for the next 12 to 18 months, attributed to strong asset quality and a solid capital structure. As of June 2024, Agribank's non-performing loan ratio remained stable year-over-year, with a high coverage ratio that exceeds the average of Vietnamese banks, providing a strong buffer against potential bad debts.
In 2024, Agribank solidified its status as Vietnam's largest bank by capital mobilization and the second largest in total assets, continuing its commitment to socio-economic development and significant investments in rural areas. With a leading share of the agricultural credit market, Agribank plans to modernize its IT systems and adopt advanced technologies, aiming for a transformation into a joint stock commercial bank that aligns with international standards. Agribank aims to secure a position among the Top 100 largest banks in Asia by asset size while ensuring safe and effective operations, maintaining its leadership in the agricultural and rural finance sector.
As a leading financial institution in Vietnam, Agribank has made a substantial impact on the local and global financial markets. Fortune Magazine's 2024 rankings placed Agribank among the top 50 largest firms in Southeast Asia and fifth among Vietnam's largest businesses. A Certificate of Merit highlighting Agribank's accomplishments and contributions to the industry was given by the Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam, further highlighting Agribank’s dedication to innovation and digital transformation.
