Exports of agriculture, forestry and fishery increased by nearly 20% in the first quarter

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the total import and export turnover of agriculture, forestry and fishery in the first quarter of 2021 is estimated at USD 18.34 billion; of which exports reached USD 10.61 billion, an increase of 19.7% over the same period last year; imports reached USD 7.74 billion, an increase of 44.7%. The value of agriculture, forestry and fishery in the first quarter saw an export surplus of about USD 2.87 billion, decreased by 18.2% over the same period in 2020.

In March, the export turnover of agriculture, forestry and fishery reached USD 4.12 billion, an increase of 20% over the same period last year, an increase of 57.4% over February 2021; in which, the export value of main agricultural products is estimated at USD 1.75 billion, main forest products is estimated at USD 1.52 billion, fishery products at USD 685 million, and livestock products at USD 37 million, etc.

The cummulative figure for the first quarter, the export turnover of agricultural, forestry and fishery products is estimated at USD 10.61 billion, an increase of 19.7% compared to the first quarter of 2020. Particularly, the group of main agricultural products reached USD 4.59 billion, an increase of 10.2%; the group of main forest products reached USD 3.94 billion, an increase of 41.6%; the group of fishery products reached USD 1.69 billion, an increase of 3.3%; livestock production reached USD 89 million, an increase of 34.7%.

In the first quarter, many items achieved higher export value compared to the same period last year such as rubber, tea, vegetables, cassava, shrimp, forest products. Specifically, the export value of rubber reached about USD 721 million, an increase of 116%; tea reached USD 41 million, an increase of 6.2%; vegetables of about USD 944 million, an increase of 6.1%; cassava reached USD116 million, an increase of 23.3%; shrimp reached USD 773 million, an increase of 8.3%; timber and wood products reached about USD 3.7 billion, an increase of 41.5%; rattan, bamboo products reached USD 199 million, an increase of 49.2%...

However, there are still items with a decrease in export value such as: coffee reached USD 771 million, decreased by 11.3%; rice reached about USD 606 million, decreased by 17.4%; cashew nuts reached USD 634 million; decreased by 5.8%; pangasius reached USD 373 million, decreased by 2.6%, etc.

Regarding the export market, the export value of agricultural, forestry and fishery products to Asian markets accounts for 54.4% of the market share; Americas 32.2%; Europe 11.8%, etc. Among them, the four main export markets, i.e. the US, China, Japan and South Korea all had strong growth in exports with an increase of 45.8%, 39.5%, 3.4% and 9.5%, respectively.

Regarding imports, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the import value of agricultural, forestry and fishery products in the first quarter increased sharply compared to the same period in 2020 because many groups of goods increased sharply. Specifically, the main agricultural products increased by 66.7%; fishery groups increased by 21.6%; the main forest products group increased by 34.7%; livestock products increased by 14%; production input group increased by 37.8%.
