Forest product exports reached nearly USD 12 billion in the first nine months of the year
According to the data recently released by the Vietnam Administration of Forestry (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), the export of timber and wood products in September 2021 brought in USD 750 million, accumulated 9 months reached USD 11.14 billion, an increase of 30.9% compared to the 3 corresponding quarters of last year.
Export of non-timber forest products brought in USD 71 million in September 2021, including USD 50 million from rattan, bamboo and sedge products, carpets and USD 21 million from cinnamon. Accumulated over 9 months, the group of non-timber forest products brought in USD 832 million in export turnover, an increase of 46.4% over the same period last year, including rattan, bamboo and sedge products, carpets with USD 632 million; cinnamon products reach USD 201 million.
The main export markets of wood and forest products are the United States, Japan, China, the EU and South Korea, which now account for over 90% of the total export value of wood and forest products.
Regarding the task of forest development, according to the Vietnam Administration of Forestry, in September, the whole country planted 26,744 hectares of forests, of which 1,100 hectares of protective forests were planted and 25,640 ha of production forest were planted.
Accumulated over 9 months, 174,695 hectares of forests have been planted, reaching 75.9% of the year plan, equaling 141% compared to the same period last year, including special-use forests with 348 hectares; protection forest with 821 ha and production forest of 170,526 ha.
In addition, in the past 3 quarters, the whole country planted 72 million scattered trees, reaching 60% of the whole year plan and equaling 131% compared to the same period last year.
In 9 months, zoning and regenerating of forests has achieved 127,001 ha, equaling 77% compared to the same period last year. Of which: 27,283 ha new zoning; zoning for transitional farming of 99,718 ha. Planting forest care has been carried out 383,491 ha, equaling 91% over the same period.
In September 2021, exploitation from concentrated plantations reached 1.979 million m3 of timber. Accumulated in 9 months, the whole country has exploited about 13,581 million m3 from concentrated planted forests, reaching 62.8% of the plan, equaling 146% over the same period (including: exploiting to make full use of 5,131 m3; exploitation from concentrated plantations of 11 million m3; exploitation from scattered plants 395.4 m3.
For the task of forest protection, in September, 304 cases of violations of the Forest Law were detected. Accumulated over 9 months, 2,117 cases of violations of the law on forest protection were detected, an increase of 256 cases compared to the same period last year, collecting VND 67.2 billion to the state budget.
Implementation of forest environmental services, as of the end of September 2021, the whole country has collected VND 2,108.25 billion, reaching 75% of the 2021 plan, equaling 148% over the same period last year.
In September, one unit was granted a new FSC certificate with an area of 820 hectares, bringing the total forest area granted with a valid sustainable forest management certificate to date to 312,268 hectares in 29 localities. At the same time, there are 12 more units with 183,305 hectares approved by the provincial People's Committees for sustainable forest management.
To date, there have been 125 forest owners who are organizations that have developed and submitted to the competent authorities for approval the plan on sustainable forest management and protection according to regulations with an area of about 1.7 million hectares, reaching 24% of the area to be implemented.
