In the first 4 months of 2022, Vietnam's rice exports increased by 4.4% in volume

According to preliminary statistics of the General Department of Customs, in April 2022, Vietnam exported 555,769 tons of rice, equivalent to USD 275.95 million, the average price of USD 496.5/ton, an increase of 5% in both volume and value; prices also increased slightly by 0.3% compared to March 2022; but decreased in both volume, turnover and price compared to April 2021, with corresponding reductions of 28.9%, 35% and 8.5%.
In April 2022, rice exports to the Philippines' main market increased sharply by 79% in both volume and value compared to March 2022, reaching 243,398 tons, equivalent to USD 111.09 million; but decreased by 20% in volume and decreased by 31.3% in turnover compared to April 2021. Rice exports to the Chinese market in April 2022 continued to increase by 23% in volume and 28.7% in turnover compared to March 2022, reaching 118,491 tons, equivalent to USD 64.4 million; compared to April 2021, an increase of 5.2% in volume and an increase of 11% in turnover also recorded.
Accumulated over the first four months of 2022, the country's rice exports reached nearly 2.06 million tons, equivalent to nearly USD 1.01 billion, an increase of 4.4% in volume, but a decrease of 6% in turnover compared to the first four months of 2021, the average price reached USD 489/ton, a decrease of 10%.
The Philippines still ranks first in Vietnam's rice consumption, accounting for 44.4% of the total volume and 41.3% of the country's total rice export turnover, reaching 915,534 tons, equivalent to USD 422.16 million; average price of USD 461/ton, an increase of 27.9% in volume and an increase of 10.7% in turnover but a decrease of 13.5% in price compared to the first 4 months of 2021.
Followed by the Chinese market, accounting for over 14.4% of the total volume and 15.4% of the total turnover, reaching 296,941 tons, equivalent to USD 155.39 million, the average price of USD 523.3/ton, a decrease of 20% in both volume and turnover; prices decreased slightly by 0.5% over the same period in 2021.
Ivory Coast market ranked third with 212,604 tons, equivalent to USD 90.81 million, at the price of USD 427/ton, a sharp increase of 65% in volume and 40.4% increase in turnover but a decrease of 14.9% in price over the same period, accounting for 10.3% of the total volume and 9% of the total rice export turnover of the country.
Exports to RCEP FTA markets reached 1.38 million tons, equivalent to USD 661.64 million, an increase of 10% in volume but a decrease of 1.2% in turnover. Exports to FTA CPTTP markets reached 157,509 tons, equivalent to USD 78.51 million, a decrease of 3.3% in volume and a decrease of 12.5% in turnover.
