Turkey increases pepper imports from Vietnam

In the first quarter of 2021, Turkey's pepper imports from Vietnam reached over 1 thousand tons, worth USD 2 million, an increase of 56.6% in volume and 61.9% in value over the same period in 2020. Turkey imports pepper to meet consumption demand in the domestic market. Vietnam still has plenty of room to boost pepper exports to Turkey.

The Import and Export Department, citing statistics from the International Trade Center, that Turkey's pepper imports in the 2016-2020 period grew at an average rate of 25.1%/year (by volume), from 4 .23 thousand tons in 2016 to 6.53 thousand tons in 2020. Of which, Turkey's pepper imports from Vietnam grew at an average rate of 14.3%/year in the 2016-2020 period, from 3.56 thousand tons in 2016 to 3.72 thousand tons in 2020.

Turkey's pepper imports in the first quarter of 2021 increased sharply by 64.2% in volume and 65.4% in value over the same period in 2020, reaching approximately 2.2 thousand tons, valued at USD 4. 4 million. Turkey's average import price of pepper in the first quarter of 2021 reached USD 2,021 per ton, increased by 0.8% over the same period in 2020. In which, the import price of Turkish pepper increased from Vietnam, Brazil and Madagascar, but decreased sharply from India.

In the first quarter of 2021, Turkey increased its pepper imports from most sources, but decreased imports from Madagascar. Statistics show that Turkey's pepper imports from Vietnam in the first quarter of 2021 reached over 1 thousand tons, worth USD 2 million, an increase of 56.6% in volume and an increase of 61.9% in value compared to the same period in 2020. Vietnam's pepper market share in total imports of Turkey accounted for 46.33% in the first quarter of 2021, lower than 48.55% in the first quarter of 2020.

Similarly, Turkey's pepper imports from Brazil in the first quarter of 2021 reached 802 tons, worth USD 1.9 million, an increase of 58.2% in volume and 93.4% in value over the same period in 2020. Brazil's pepper market share in Turkey's total imports accounted for 36.79% in the first quarter of 2021, lower than 38.17% in the first quarter of 2020. Turkey imports pepper to meet consumption demand in the domestic market. Vietnam still has plenty of room to boost pepper exports to Turkey.
