Five months- Industrial production index increased by 9.9%
Although the Covid-19 pandemic has been with complicated developments since the end of April and directly affected a number of industrial zones in Bac Giang and Bac Ninh provinces, thanks to the rapid implementation of zoning and control, the industrial production index in May 2021 still increased by 1.6% compared to the previous month and increased by 11.6% over the same period last year.
The report of the Ministry of Industry and Trade shows that the index of industrial production (IIP) in May 2021 increased by 1.6% compared to the previous month and increased by 11.6% over the same period last year (in May 2020 decreased by 0.4% compared to the same period last year).
Accumulated over the first five months of 2021, IIP increased by 9.9% over the same period last year. In which, the processing and manufacturing with an increase of 12.6% (in the same period last year, increased by 3.2%) continued to be the main growth driver of the industry; electricity production and distribution increased by 8.3% (in the same period last year, increased by 2.1%); water supply industry, waste and wastewater management and treatment activities increased by 7.5% (increased by 2.9% in the same period last year); the mining industry alone decreased by 7% (in the same period last year, decreased by 7.7%).
Notably, in the secondary industries, a number of key industries had a high five-month production index compared to the same period last year: Metal production increased by 38%; motor vehicle production increased by 35%; production of machinery and equipment not classified elsewhere increased by 15.6%; production of electronic products, computers and optical products increased by 15.5%; production of motorcycles and motorbikes increased by 13.6%; beverage production increased by 12.8%.
Besides, some major industrial products in the first five months of 2021 increased sharply compared to the same period last year: Rolled steel increased by 60%; cars increased by 56%; phone components increased by 36.4%; mobile phones increased by 22.2%; pig iron and crude steel increased by 18.4%; motorbikes increased by 15.3%; NPK compound fertilizer increased by 13.5%; television increased by 13.2%; leather shoes and sandals both increased by 12.6%; different types of beer increased by 11.7%.
In order to achieve results that ensure the implementation of the "dual goal" of controlling the pandemic, developing socio-economic, ensuring social security and people's lives, previously, the Ministry of Industry and Trade held an online conference with 63 People's Committees and Departments of Industry and Trade of provinces and cities on the strict implementation of pandemic prevention and control in industrial parks, production facilities, markets, supermarkets and trade centers.
