In just 5 months, coffee exports have surpassed the USD 2 billion mark

According to estimates, in May 2023, Vietnam's coffee exports reached 165 thousand tons, worth USD 396 million, an increase of 0.9% in volume, but a decrease of 0.7% in value compared to April 2023, an increase of 15.7% in volume and an increase of 21.8% in value compared to May 2022.

Accumulated over the first five months of 2023, Vietnam's coffee exports are estimated at 882 thousand tons, worth USD 2.02 billion, a decrease of 2.2% in volume, but an increase of 0.2% in value over the same period last year.

In May 2023, the average export price of Vietnam's coffee is estimated at USD 2,399/ton, a decrease of 1.6% compared to April 2023, but an increase of 5.3% compared to May 2022. Accumulated over the first five months of 2023, the average export price of Vietnam's coffee is estimated at USD 2,295/ton, an increase of 2.4% over the same period last year.

Regarding the type structure in the first 4 months of 2023, exports of Robusta and Arabica coffee decreased, but exports of Excelsa and processed coffee increased compared to the same period last year.

Statistics from the General Department of Customs show that Robusta coffee exports in April 2023 reached approximately 145 thousand tons, worth USD 312.67 million, an increase of 5.3% in volume and an increase of 16% in value compared to April 2022. Accumulated over the first four months of 2023, Vietnam's Robusta coffee exports reached 647.74 thousand tons, worth USD 1.29 billion, a decrease of 2.9% in volume and a decrease of 2.0% in value over the same period last year.

In which, exports of Robusta coffee to Spain, Japan, Belgium, UK, and the Netherlands decreased, but exports to Germany, Italy, the United States and Russia increased.

It is predicted that from now until the end of the year, coffee exports will still be favorable when the demand increases while the supply is not improved. It is forecast that coffee output this year will decrease by 10%-15%/year due to unfavorable weather. In addition, inflation has increased the price of raw materials, especially the price of agricultural inputs increased by 2-3 times, has increased the cost of coffee production and processing, leading to an increase in selling prices.

Currently, Vietnamese coffee enterprises export to Europe from 1.6 to 1.7 million tons of coffee each year. The EU market is the largest import market for Vietnamese coffee, accounting for 45% of total coffee exports.
