Pangasius export prices increased slightly in April

The average export price of Vietnamese pangasius increased slightly in April, but the export price to the largest market, China, decreased, while the export price to the EU decreased more sharply.

According to data from the seafood industry information site Undercurrent News, the average export price of pangasius in April increased 1% to USD 2.41/kg.

Pangasius exports in March reached 79,293 tons, an increase of 28% compared to February. However, in April, the export volume decreased by 29% compared to March and decreased by 46% compared to the same period last year.

Sales to China, Hong Kong and several other markets including Russia, Australia, the United Arab Emirates and Colombia fell in April.

China and Hong Kong remained the largest importers of Vietnamese pangasius in April, accounting for 34%.

The price of pangasius exported to this market decreased by 3.3% to USD 2.28/kg, decreased by 9.5% over the same period last year.

Pangasius export volume to China reached 17,155 tons, decreased from 27,086 tons in March and 63.3% lower than the same period last year.

Demand in the ASEAN region is the most stable so far this year and pangasius exports in April reached 7,709 tons, decreased by about 10% compared to March. The average export price of pangasius to the market decreased by 11% to USD 1.87/kg, the lowest level since 2021.

The price of pangasius exported to the EU market continued to decline. Accordingly, the price of pangasius in April decreased by 1.8% to USD 2.69/kg and decreased by 9% compared to the same period last year. Export volume fell from 6,412 tons in March to 5,701 tons. However, this number is still better than the fourth quarter of 2022 and the beginning of 2023.

The US market has helped support the average export price of pangasius. Accordingly, the selling price to this market in April increased by 2% in April to USD 3.68/kg. However, the export volume decreased slightly to 7,296 tons.

In the UK market, export prices were stable but sales volume increased slightly.

The price of pangasius exported to the UK increased 2% to USD 3.04/kg, while the volume increased slightly to 1,247 tons. However, compared to the same period.
